HOW TO MEASURE
YOUR DOG'S PAW

All you need: a blank sheet of paper, a pen, and a ruler. Takes under 60 seconds.

STEP 01
📄
Place paw on paper & trace
Put a blank sheet of paper on a hard flat floor. Have your dog stand with full weight on all paws — don't let them sit or lean. Hold the pen vertically and trace around the outline of the widest paw, including the toenails.
Front paws are larger. Always trace a front paw and use that size for all four boots.
STEP 02
📏
Measure width & length
Using a ruler, measure the widest point of the traced outline side to side — that's your paw width. Then measure from the tip of the longest toenail to the bottom of the pad — that's your paw length. Write both down.
Width is your primary measurement. Always match to width first when sizing.
STEP 03
Match width to the chart
Find your paw width in the size chart below. Width is the most important number. If your width and length fall into different sizes, always go with the larger of the two. Between sizes? Always size up.
Between two sizes? Always size up — a slightly larger boot with a snug strap is always better.
PAW WIDTH
WHAT YOU'RE MEASURING
W
Width (primary) — Widest point side to side. This is your key sizing number. Always match to width first.
L
Length (secondary) — Longest toenail tip to bottom of pad. Use to confirm if width is borderline.
!
Between sizes? Always size up — a slightly larger boot with a snug strap is always safer than a boot that's too tight on a long trail.

FITTING TIPS

HOW TO GET
THE PERFECT FIT

Sizing right is step one. Fitting right is step two.

📐
The strap test
After strapping the boot on, slide one finger under the strap with gentle effort. Snug — not tight. Too tight restricts circulation on long hikes.
🔄
The rotation test
Once strapped, gently try to rotate the boot. It should not spin or slide. If it rotates more than a few degrees, tighten the strap or try one size down.
🏠
Break them in indoors first
Never go straight to the trail. Let your dog wear the boots inside for 10–15 min across 2–3 sessions. Most dogs adjust fully in one indoor session.
🐾
Front vs. back paws
Front paws are almost always larger. Measure the front paw and use that size for all four boots. A slightly looser fit on the back paws is normal and performs well.
⚠️
Signs the boot is too small
Dog lifting paws unusually high, walking stiffly, or shaking boots off immediately even after adjustment period. Too-small boots restrict movement fast.
Signs you've got it right
Dog walks naturally after a brief adjustment, boots don't rotate, straps feel snug not tight. A well-fitted boot is forgotten by your dog within 10 minutes.

COMMON QUESTIONS

SIZING FAQ

The questions we get asked most — answered straight.

?
How do I choose between two sizes?
Always go with the larger size. Width is your primary measurement — if your dog's paw falls exactly between two sizes, size up. A slightly larger boot with a snug strap is always more comfortable than a boot that's too tight on the trail.
?
My dog keeps shaking the boots off — wrong size?
Not necessarily. Most dogs need 10–15 minutes of indoor walking to adjust to boots. Give them 2–3 short indoor sessions before making a size judgment. If they still fall off after full adjustment, try sizing down one size and make sure both straps are tight and even.
?
Can I use the same size for all four paws?
Yes — K9 RockPaw boots come in sets of 4 in one size. Since front paws are generally larger, sizing to the front paw gives a comfortable fit on all four. The slightly looser fit on back paws is normal and performs perfectly on the trail.
?
What if I ordered the wrong size?
No problem — that's exactly what our 30-Day Fit Guarantee covers. Contact us within 30 days of receiving your order and we'll send the correct size at zero extra cost. No questions asked.
?
How often should I re-measure my dog's paws?
Puppies under 18 months grow fast — re-measure every 3 months. Adult dogs should be re-measured every 6–12 months, or whenever their current boots feel different than before.
